November 2002: Spiral Wire Production
See if you’ve ever had a project
with these requirements: layflat capabilities, durable construction, a
traditional look, plenty of design options and compatibility with mixed stocks.
Oh, let’s not forget a rapid turnaround time and a tight
production budget. That’s a tall order, but spiral wire binding can fill
it. Spiral wire is an economical choice for a wide range of products, including
wall and desk calendars, notebooks, memo pads, children’s books, shop manuals,
flip charts and more. Index tabs and foldouts are a breeze to include, and even
multiple stock weights and finishes can be used.
Cover me — The
flexibility of spiral wire binding allows for plenty of cover options. Covers
can be thick or thin and may contain design options such as foldouts, pockets,
gussets, easels, as well as die cut covers that can register to print for a
dramatic opening.
The
Eckhart Advantage — At Eckhart & Company, we can produce spiral
wire books with several custom cover options. For example, a turned edge front
cover can be paired with an easel back cover to form an easy-to-use tabletop
display.
Pick a wire, any wire
— Spiral wire is available in dozens of gauges that fit a wide range of book
bulks. Plenty of colors are available to give your spiral wire books a
customized appearance. For large quantities, PMS-matched wire can be ordered to
perfectly match corporate logos.
The
Eckhart Advantage — There’s almost no spiral binding project we can’t
handle. We can bind books that bulk up to 1-3/4” using a 2” coil; that’s
among the best in the industry! In addition, our multiple machines give us the
capacity to handle even the highest-volume projects.
Spacing counts! — To
ensure smooth and efficient spiral wire production, spiral wire-bound books must
be trimmed based on the wire size and spacing of the punched holes. Standard
spiral wire punching intervals are 5:1 (five holes per linear inch), 4:1, 3.2:1
and 2.5:1.
The
Eckhart Advantage — To ensure optimum production quality, let us
handle the trimming and punching as well as the binding. Projects that are
slightly under-trimmed or improperly punched may require additional work to
accept the wire, so involve us during the planning phase to help avoid
additional cost and schedule overruns.
