December 2002: Wire-O Cover Options

The versatility of Wire-O binding allows for plenty of cover options that make your books unique. At Eckhart & Company, we can produce Wire-O covers with a multitude of materials and decorating options, giving you the creative freedom to set your books apart from the crowd.

Cover Styles

Two-piece - Refers to separate front and back covers. This is a cost effective cover design, although spine printing isn’t an option.

Single-piece - Options include semi-concealed, fully-concealed and wrap-around   designs. The wraparound portion can wraparound either the spine or face of the book to give you a little extra printing real estate.

More Than Thick Paper and Ink

At Eckhart & Company, we offer several cover construction options that are available for both single-piece and two-piece Wire-O cover designs:

Turned-edge - This process involves gluing a cover material (ranging from laminated paper to leather) onto a board and turning the material over the edges of the board to create a wrap. Then, an inside liner is applied. A popular style of binding that utilizes turned-edge cover construction is cased-in Wire-O.

Cut flush - Unlike turned-edge, materials such as polyethylene (a semi-rigid, water-resistant plastic) are cut to a pre-determined size and bound with text or inserted materials. Other examples of cut-flush materials include Lexatone, Pajco, or a pressboard.

Decorating Options - Screen printing, round cornering, die cutting, foil stamping, UV coating, embossing, debossing and laminating are some of the decorating options we can perform on your Wire-O covers.

The Eckhart Advantage

Our Bielomatik Wire-O binding machines allow single-piece Wire-O covers to be automatically fed, punched and married to the text sheets. Give us a call to find out how Eckhart & Company can help you take advantage of efficient production and a wide range of cover options on your next Wire-O book project.
