April 2003: Mechanical Binding Production Options
When it comes to mechanical binding
production, there are several ways to go from printed material to a fully-bound
book. However, not all of them are efficient for all applications. The
production method needs to match the complexity and quantity of the project. For
example, manual and semi-automatic production methods require a good amount of
handling, which limits production speed. This isn’t an issue with simple,
short-run projects where quick set-up is valued over running speed. On the other
hand, fully-automatic mechanical binding is ideal for very long runs, where the
machine’s considerable production speed allows even the longest runs to be
produced economically.
The
Eckhart Advantage
At Eckhart & Company, we understand that
mechanical binding projects come in all different shapes and sizes. In order to
truly be a single source for all things mechanical binding, we must be equipped
to handle any project that comes our way.
Our three fully-automatic Bielomatik binding
lines are ideal for long-run Wire-O, plastic spiral and spiral wire binding
production. The speed and flexibility of these machines allow us to routinely
handle project runs in the hundreds of thousands. Jogging, punching and binding
are all performed in-line. Their versatility allows for production options such
as semi- and fully-concealed covers, split Wire-O binding and more.
On the other hand, our semi-automatic
production capabilities offer a great deal of efficiency for runs of even 100
books. And, small quantities don’t necessarily mean simple designs. Index
tabs, foldouts, concealed covers and other options can all be produced
efficiently on your short-run mechanical binding applications.
Mechanical binding is our focus. Let Eckhart
& Company help you design books for efficient mechanical binding production
- no matter what shape or size it is.
