October 2004: Create Appeal with Pad Holders and Portfolios

Promotional products can take many forms, but all of them have the same goal: keeping your company's name and logo under your prospect's eyes and at their fingertips for as long as possible. Pad holders and portfolios allow you to create 'take-it-with-you' pieces that provide your customer functionality-and tie your name to a useful product.

Pad Holders
Similar to casemade perfect bound pieces, pad holders place a notepad inside a cover instead of a signature. Boards are covered with vinyl, book cloth, paper or imitation leathers that are turned over the edge and held in place by a durable substrate glued to the inside of the piece. This inside cover is die cut to provide a slit for the lightweight cardboard backer that holds the pad together, creating a secure anchor.

Including pockets in pad holder designs not only provide additional functionality, they can provide space for product inserts: pens, multimedia, business cards and direct response forms and more.

Design tip: Add a Pocket - Including pockets in pad holder designs not only provide additional functionality, they can provide space for product inserts: pens, multimedia, business cards and direct response forms are a few examples. Pockets can be created in any size or shape-check with the creative team at Eckhart & Company-we probably have the pocket design template you're looking for!

Portfolios
Much more than thick, folded sheets with inside pockets, portfolios can be produced from a variety of substrates to create a unique and practical look. Portfolio designs can include booklets, inserts, pop-outs and much more, making the creative possibilities nearly endless. The functionality of portfolios can be increased with pockets, rivets, or even rings that allow you to include large amounts of information or material.

Design Tip: Die Cut Registrations - Nothing adds intrigue like a glimpse of what's to come. By die cutting windows into the portfolio cover, you can show teaser images or text of pages included in your portfolio. On the inside of the portfolio, die cuts can register pop-ups, pockets and other touches to your internal design.
